School of Information (iSchool)
Students in the iSchool can broaden their education, expand their expertise and strengthen their career opportunities by studying, researching or interning abroad.
To have the best experience abroad, it is recommended that students meet with their academic advisor early in their undergraduate career. Review the funding resources page and the events calendar.
After reviewing Advising resources, if you have questions you may set up a meeting with a Program Coordinator.
Credit Abroad
Remember to use the My Credit Abroad database to explore the historical record of courses other UT students have taken abroad.
Questions about credit? Review the Study Abroad Credit page for more information about receiving academic credit while abroad.
- Major Degree Requirements
As an Informatics major, students typically must take I 304 and I 310 before advancing to other Informatics coursework, but there is a lot of flexibility by taking Informatics electives in a chosen concentration (such as I 320D, I 320U, etc.)
Students with interdisciplinary majors, minors, or certificates may be able to count coursework toward those requirements through petition. Discuss with your advisor how to petition to count a course abroad toward any pre-approved list of courses.
- Core and General Education Requirements
Students can fulfill core requirements abroad via petition. For more information, view the Texas Undergraduate Studies petitions page.
iSchool students require 3 credits in a foreign language, as well as 6 credits in any science, technology, engineering, and math field. These also may be taken abroad. See the iSchool curriculum for more information.
- Electives
Students have flexibility, depending on their degree plan, to take general electives. All credit gained abroad could count as an elective, at a minimum. Some majors can also earn major elective credit by taking informatics courses abroad.
Application Process and Deadlines
Application instructions and deadlines vary by program type and term. Submit all required materials before the due date to ensure your application will be reviewed.
Review the How to Apply for Education Abroad Programs page for more info.
