Program Inclusions

Programs generally include internship placement, pre-departure preparation, professional development and cultural programming. In-country programs also typically include visa guidance, airport pick-up, housing, arrival orientation, local transportation and 24/7 on-site support.

Language Requirements

Most programs do not require foreign language skills, even in non-English speaking countries, but familiarity with the local language is beneficial.

  • Internship provider’s program fee
  • Personal costs for flight, transportation, food and incidentals

You can learn more about these costs on the Expenses page.

All internship students should explore the Funding for Internships page for scholarships. Use program code 300999 to apply for Texas Global scholarships. Internship providers may have special scholarship programs, including scholarships for diverse and first-generation college students. Browse the provider’s website for details. Internships without coursework are not eligible for financial aid.

How to Pick an Internship Program Provider

UT Austin has agreements with several internship providers for in-country and virtual programs. To determine the best program for you, consider the type of experience you want, the location where you want to intern and the type of work you want to do. Visit the provider’s website for a full list and description of programs.

Internship Credit

UT Austin does not award internship credit for completing a non-academic internship. You earn credit for a course which complements your internship experience. Because these programs do not include coursework which complements the internship (complementary courses), no credit is automatically attached. However, all programs are “credit-eligible,” meaning you can enroll in the UT internship course of your choice to earn credit for the experience of your international internship.

Make sure you talk to your Academic Advisor if you need an internship for your degree. They will guide you on any departmental policies. Consult your College’s website for specific criteria and requirements for an internship. Some colleges may also require a student to request pre-approval for your internship placement in order to count it toward a degree requirement.
