Global Career Launch: Customized Internships

Spend the summer gaining international experience through Global Career Launch: Customized Internships – an internship abroad program designed exclusively for UT Austin students.

Over six exciting weeks, students will live and work in one of three dynamic destinations, building professional and intercultural skills.

Students will be matched with internships through a trusted placement provider, with opportunities available across a wide range of sectors including business, government, communications, and health.

Locations

Madrid

An internship in Madrid offers an outstanding opportunity to live and work in a dynamic, globally recognized economy known for its innovation. Madrid has cultivated a thriving start-up ecosystem, creating countless opportunities for students to advance their careers. It is often called the “Silicon Valley of Europe” and is an inspiring hub full of energy, creativity, and possibilities. Spanish language skills are not required for an internship, and there are plenty of exciting opportunities for both Spanish and non-Spanish speakers.

Absolute Internship’s Madrid program provide students and graduates with exciting experiences in fastest-growing industry sectors operating in the Spanish capital. Industries including business, entrepreneurship, engineering, graphic design and marketing are the most popular placements in Madrid, but there are many other options from a variety of sectors.

Accommodations include single rooms in an apartment style hotel with access to a gym, laundry facilities, and a rooftop terrace. 

Barcelona

Interning in Barcelona offers the chance to immerse yourself in Spanish culture while gaining valuable professional experience in a global hub of creativity and innovation. Seoul

Seoul is a dynamic city that blends cutting-edge technology with rich cultural heritage, offering interns a unique experience in one of the world’s top economic hubs. Ranked 10th among the world’s largest economic powers and 5th in the Asia-Pacific region, Seoul offers students an opportunity to engage in internships in a growing economy known for innovation.

Through Absolute Internship, participants can secure placements in sectors like marketing, non-profit,  business, entrepreneurship, fashion, and many more while enjoying quality housing, networking events, and cultural activities. This program provides hands-on professional experience and valuable connections, helping interns stand out in a competitive global job market.

Accommodations include double rooms in an apartment style hotel with access to a gym, laundry facilities, and a swimming pool.

Application Information

Internship opportunities are open to UT Austin undergraduate and graduate students from all majors. Students can only apply to one location and can choose another location as a second choice. 

  1. Interested students should self-authorize access to the application for the summer whole session using the codes Madrid (411001), Barcelona (411002), or Seoul (411003). The program coordinator for Madrid and Barcelona is Stephanie Cushey and the coordinator for Seoul is Cat McGovern.
  2. After initiating your application in the MyAbroad Portal, you will submit a statement of interest, resume and two letters of recommendation (one professional and one academic) to international.internships@austin.utexas.edu.
  3. Once accepted into the program, students will work with trusted internship provider Absolute Internship to identify internship opportunities, interview for positions, and secure an internship placement. 

Cost

Program fee: $5,345. Includes internship placement, housing, pre-departure support, visa guidance, professional development workshops, orientation, local transportation, onsite program coordinator, and transportation to and from the airport.

Funding

Internships are only financial aid eligible if students enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours. Additional funding can be obtained by applying to the International Education Fee (IEF) Scholarship, or other institutional or national scholarships. Credit

UT offers hundreds of internship, field work, capstone and experiential courses that can be used to award credit to an internship experience. You should consult your academic advisor about internship courses and requirements specific to your major, minor or certificate.
