Get Involved
ISSS offers many ways for students and scholars to meet one another and become part of our vibrant international community.
ISSS Events
International Student and Scholar Services offers a variety of intercultural programs and events to provide opportunities for students to explore life at the University and make new friends. Students can connect with each other at our social hours, join one of our city excursions, or attend an information session. Be sure to watch for monthly ISSS newsletters in your inbox to find ways to connect with other international students every month!
International Orientation Volunteer (IOV) Program
Each fall and spring, UT Austin and Texas Global welcome more than a thousand international students to the Longhorn community. We rely heavily on the passion of our IOVs for helping their fellow international students get integrated into the campus community. IOVs assist ISSS staff with in-person International Orientation Events and guide campus tours and scavenger hunts for small groups of international students. All IOVs receive a Texas Global t-shirt and a certificate of completion for the program, as well as recognition in various Texas Global/ISSS publications and social media channels.
Language Circles
Language Circles offer both domestic and international students a chance to connect with each other and practice language skills in an informal setting. Student leadership opportunities include hosting a Language Circle in English or any other language. If you are interested in joining a Language Circle, please fill out this quick survey!
If you have any questions about Language Circles, please email us at intercultural@austin.utexas.edu.
Friendship Program
The Friendship Program connects international students and scholars with host families and individuals, members of the Austin community who share insight into the local culture.
Global Living Learning Community
The Global Living Learning Community provides the opportunity for UT Austin students from diverse cultural backgrounds and countries to live in the same residence hall. Residents enjoy special programs and events to enhance their intercultural competency and cross-cultural communication skills.
