Want to improve your English but can't come to the UT campus? We offer three online courses:

Writing (self-paced)
Intermediate Writing
This 14-week course is designed for intermediate-level English writers who want to strengthen their academic and professional writing skills. Throughout the course, you will receive personalized feedback from your instructor to help you improve your writing. The textbook is included in your tuition, and each week focuses on a new chapter and set of writing skills.
What you will learn:
- How to write a well-organized academic paragraph with a topic sentence, supporting details, and a concluding sentence
- How to use correct grammar, punctuation and formatting in your English writing
- How to identify and correct common writing errors
- How to write professional American-style emails
- How to write effective posts and comments for social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter)
What you will do:
- Watch instructional videos each week that explain and expand on the textbook content
- Strengthen your writing and grammar skills through regular homework assignments
- Exchange weekly emails with classmates to practice written communication
- Complete seven multi-draft writing projects (six paragraphs and one essay) and receive feedback from both classmates and your instructor

Pronunciation (self-paced)
Intermediate to Low-Advanced Pronunciation
This 7-week course is designed for intermediate to low-advanced English speakers who want to improve their pronunciation and speak more clearly and confidently. Throughout the course, you will receive personalized feedback from your instructor to help you identify areas for improvement and develop more natural, understandable speech.
What you will learn:
- How to speak more clearly so that others can understand you more easily
- How to use a variety of online tools and resources to improve your pronunciation
- How to recognize and self-correct pronunciation errors
- How to use listening skills to support pronunciation development
What you will do:
- Complete 28 one-hour learning modules over seven weeks (approximately four hours per week)
- Practice the sounds and patterns of spoken English, including consonants, vowels, syllables, and word stress (modules 1-13)
- Develop advanced pronunciation skills, including rhythm, thought groups, focus words, intonation, and linking (modules 15-28)
- Create audio or video recordings in each lesson to practice and demonstrate your pronunciation skills
- Receive individualized feedback from your instructor on every recording
By the end of the course, you will have greater confidence in your spoken English and a stronger understanding of the pronunciation features that contribute to clear and effective communication.

Speaking (live via Zoom)
Intermediate to Advanced Speaking
These 7-week courses are designed for intermediate and advanced English speakers who want to improve their fluency, confidence, and communication skills. Classes are taught live via Zoom, creating an interactive and engaging learning environment. Throughout the course, you will participate in pair and group discussions, and receive regular spoken and written feedback from your instructor.
What you will learn:
- How to speak spontaneously and confidently in a variety of situations
- How to use appropriate vocabulary, expressions, and conversational strategies
- How to express, explain, and support your opinions in extended conversations
- How to find, evaluate, and use reliable information from online sources
- How to use high-quality online resources to continue improving your English independently
What you will do:
- Build fluency through interactive activities and guided discussions
- Expand your vocabulary and learn to use a wider range of expressions and figurative language
- Participate in pair work, small group activities, and class discussions
- Practice expressing opinions, sharing experiences, and discussing current topics
- Receive regular feedback from your instructor to help you improve your speaking skills and accuracy
By the end of the course, you will be able to communicate more fluently and confidently, participate effectively in extended conversations, and express your ideas more clearly in a variety of social, academic, and professional settings.
