Summer Academic English Programs at UT Austin

Want to improve your academic English before you start your degree? We offer four options for international students who have been admitted to UT or another U.S. university for the fall semester.

  • Strengthen your academic English skills and learn about expectations that are emphasized in U.S. higher education and are especially challenging to international students.
  • Classes take place on the UT campus and provide hands-on experience using UT’s library and computer facilities to complete class projects and homework.

Application

Enrolling in our summer programs is quick and easy. Because you have already been admitted to a degree program, you are not required to send us any additional documents. To reserve a place, please send:

Immigration

For Summer I, Summer II and Business English programs, you will need a new I-20 in order to enter the U.S. for our English programs. You may apply for your visa with the UT I-20 you have received, and we will send you a separate I-20 that will allow you to enter the U.S. earlier. Note that full-time study is required in order for us to issue an I-20.

For ITA preparation, you do not need a new I-20, because your UT I-20 for Fall 2023 allows you to enter the U.S. July 12. Let us know if you have not received your UT I-20 or if you have additional immigration questions.

Insurance

If you will be in the U.S. in F or J status during the summer, UT Health insurance (or an equivalent private policy) is mandatory and is not included in the cost of tuition. The cost will be added upon admission to the program; coverage for dependents is also available.

If you plan to remain outside the U.S. for the summerno insurance is required during the summer session. Your coverage as a new UT degree-seeking student will begin on Aug. 1.
