Texas Global invites the UT Austin community to celebrate international education and exchange during International Education Week (IEW), November 16-20.

A joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, IEW emphasizes the importance of global experiences, giving participants an opportunity to explore international programs, take part in cultural activities and learn more about the multitude of ways to engage with the world today.

UT Austin’s week-long celebration embraces this year’s theme of engagement, resilience and all things global. Colleges, schools and organizations across campus will host more than 70 virtual and in-person events, including alumni career panels, activities for the international student community, education abroad information sessions, traditional cultural performances and art exhibits, and dozens of other activities open to all Longhorns.

During the week, participants can listen to live readings of stories and poems by UT students during a Night of Global Voices on Nov. 16, showcasing individuals’ personal experiences and pieces of family history.

The third Texas Global Dialogues, Clean and Green? Challenges and Solutions for a Sustainable Future, will also take place on Nov. 16, bringing together three renewable energy experts and thought leaders at UT Austin to examine challenges and solutions to the world’s dwindling energy supply, as well as the latest research and innovations from the Forty Acres.

On Nov. 17, the Dell Medical School, LLILAS Benson Mexico Center, Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública de México (INSP) and the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) will discuss some of the most pressing issues posed by the global pandemic.

Throughout the week, the Visual Arts Center will host Between Two Worlds, an exhibition highlighting the bilingual aesthetics employed by thirteen artists whose identities and artistic practices have been shaped by life in the border region.

The UT community can also engage online and on social media during IEW by choosing the winners of the 2020 Texas Global Photo and Video Contest and using the hashtags #UTIEW2020 and #IEW2020.

Our motto, what starts here changes the world, helps define us, and as Longhorns, we live by it.
