UT Humanities Institute Fellow Explores Migration and Cultural Memory

Professor of Art Beili Liu has been selected as a UT Humanities Institute Faculty Fellow for 2020-22. As a fellow, she is excited to set her focus on examining the delicate balance between human impact and our natural environment. 

The Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Professor Award recipient has had residencies at institutions around the world and showcased her exhibitions in Asia, Europe and across the U.S., including the Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas. 

Liu, born in China and now living in Austin, Texas, creates material-and-process-driven site-responsive installations that explore migration and cultural memory, shaped by her personal history of navigating two cultural systems. She explores humble materials’ intrinsic qualities to extrapolate complex cultural narratives.
