COLA Launches New Croatian Learning Resource

  • Nov 14, 2024

The Slavic and Eurasian Studies Department at The University of Texas at Austin's College of Liberal Arts recently announced the release of an online learning resource designed to build competence in intercultural communication as well as language learning in Croatian.

A tiny, illustrated sailboat speaks Croatian upon the waves

“Tako Lako,” which translates to English as “It's so easy,” is designed for beginner-level learners of Croatian. The website includes a dictionary, grammar guide and phrase book. The resource also features 112 lessons, audio dialogues and instructor materials, and is fully licensed for adapting and remixing.

Each unit of the textbook features a different topic such as traditional food, family and free time activities, and are designed to enrich cultural understanding while enhancing language skills.

The textbook project was funded by a three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education (2020–2023). The UT Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies; Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies; and Texas Language Center provided additional sponsorship for creating materials and developing the website.

The website structure and the design were developed in collaboration with the Center for Open Educational Resources and Language Learning.
