UT-France Research Yields Breakthrough in 5G Technology

  • Jun 10, 2020

After extensive collaboration with the University of Lille in France, UT researchers at the Cockrell School of Engineering have made a breakthrough that may revolutionize the way we use electronics.

Our devices are full of switches that help us stay connected and updated. These switches are perpetually running, meaning that they are often unnecessarily consuming precious power just by staying on.

Researchers from all over the world have been working to solve this energy conundrum for years. Now, an international research team led by UT professor Deji Akinwande believes they have found an answer.

The team has designed a new switch that gives devices the ability to download data at incredibly high speeds without an immense drain on battery life by turning off when not in use.
