UT Art History Class Creates Virtual Exhibit for Ancient Peruvian Pieces

  • Jun 23, 2020

A group of UT students digitized UT’s vast collection of pre-colonial Peruvian artifacts, creating an online exhibition titled  Ancient Coastal Cultures of Peru: People and Animals at the Edge of the Pacific Ocean

These students were tasked with the project while enrolled in Astrid Runggaldier’s Art and Archaeology of Ancient Peru class. Runggaldier, assistant director of the Mesoamerica Center, structured the course around the digitization effort with the help of the LLILAS Benson Digital Humanities Curriculum Redesign Award.

Through digitally cataloging the pieces, this undertaking by Runggaldier and her students marks the first time the entire set of works will be on display at once.
