South Asia Institute, Moody College and University of Karachi Collaborate on Film Studies

  • Aug 2, 2022

The University of Texas at Austin’s South Asia Institute, a federally funded research center, and faculty at the Moody College of Communication are collaborating with Pakistan’s University of Karachi (KU) to create an 18-month partnership focused on film studies and filmmaking. The partnership is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Consulate in Karachi.

Begun in Spring 2022, the program supports film studies faculty and students at KU through collaborative film projects, semester-long study tours by KU faculty and a series of film screenings showcasing work by faculty and students. As part of the program, faculty in the UT Department of Radio-Television-Film (RTF) will also travel to Pakistan to provide training workshops and short courses for KU students.

“This partnership reaffirms a longstanding, deep and mutually beneficial commitment between the Department of Radio-Television-Film and our counterparts in Pakistan,” said Noah Isenberg, chair of the RTF Department. “We very much look forward to welcoming additional students and faculty from Karachi in the future, and to fulfilling our end of the exchange.”
