President’s Award Researcher Shares Her Experience Studying Colorism in Ghana

  • Oct 9, 2019

After senior Christina Cho’s team won the President’s Award for Global Learning in 2018, they spent 10 weeks in Ghana researching how to address the issue of colorism in black and Asian-American communities. Cho said her team’s work will help bring awareness to an issue affecting communities in Texas and around the world.

“Our research will impact families and people’s self-worth as they will have the tools to talk about and internalize their experience being a person of color,” Cho said. “This impact will be mobilized through the creation of separate and specialized social campaigns that will run both at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Ghana.”

Read about her team’s research abroad and future outcomes in this Q&A from the College of Liberal Arts' Life and Letters.
