Global Virtual Exchange Forums Offer Best Practices and Strategies

  • May 21, 2020

Texas Global invites faculty from UT Austin and our partner institutions to participate in our Global Virtual Exchange Forums. UT Austin faculty and their peer collaborators from around the world will share lessons learned as they developed and implemented robust virtual exchanges. Themes include best practices for creating and sustaining virtual exchanges, strategies for developing interdisciplinary course content, methods to incorporate intercultural contexts and diverse perspectives into learning, institutional collaborations, and networking and building connections with peers around the world.

Panelist Dr. Stephanie Holmsten, international relations and global studies assistant professor, has taught three virtual exchanges in partnership with institutions across Latin America. She says the online international exchange component of her courses has broadened students’ perspectives and enriched collaborations between faculty members around the world.

“What is so remarkable about global virtual exchange is that there’s so much space to be creative in the classroom,” Holmsten said. “The global research that occurs at UT gives us meaningful connections with faculty abroad and it is through those ongoing relationships that faculty then develop interesting opportunities for their students to collaborate too. I really appreciate UT’s continued commitment to teaching innovation.”

Interested faculty are encouraged to participate and discover strategies for developing and implementing virtual exchanges. Participants will receive a unique Zoom link for each forum after submitting an RSVP.
