Jane Champion

Nursing

Jane Champion is a researcher in the area of health promotion and risk reduction of urban and rural ethnic minority women and adolescents. Her clinical research focuses on STI/HIV, substance use, adolescent and women’s health, pregnancy and interpersonal violence. She conducts multilevel, multi-component primary care-based interventions with rural and urban low-income ethnic minority populations to improve their sexual and general health.

Phuong Dao

Dr. Phuong Dao received his PhD in Physical Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of Toronto, Canada. At UT Austin, his group integrates digital technologies—AI, remote sensing, and geospatial science—with biological and ecological knowledge to address urgent environmental, ecological, and biological challenges. His team collaborates with researchers from many countries worldwide.

Jeanne Freeland-Graves

Nutritional Sciences, Human Ecology

Jeanne Freeland-Graves focuses on genetic relationships of obesity with cardiovascular risk factors, liver function markers, and insulin resistance. She has explored the nutritional, environmental and psychological and social influences on weight retention in minority, low-income women after childbirth, as well as the biological and behavioral responses of both mothers and their children to nutrition and physical activity interventions.

Raymond Harshbarger

Raymond Harshbarger's clinical interests are in treating both adult and pediatric craniomaxillofacial  conditions, with specific interest in ear reconstruction, temporomandibular joint reconstruction, complex facial trauma and cranial reconstruction. He also maintains an interest in clinical and basic science research, conducting grant-funded research in the genetics of craniosynostosis.

John Lassiter

John Lassiter's research focuses on the application of isotope and trace element geochemistry to questions involving the evolution of the mantle and crust, origin of mantle plumes, generation and segregation of magma, evolution of the lithosphere, fluxes in tectonic environments, generation of mantle chemical heterogeneity, distribution of water and other elements in the Earth's interior, and evolution of the Earth's core and core/mantle boundary

Lance Manuel's research is related to uncertainty quantification associated with the safety of civil engineering, energy-generation and ocean systems. His work is being used to improve the design of wind turbines for complex inflow turbulence conditions and in enhanced the long-term reliability of deepwater floating structures. His work is also examining climate impacts on infrastructure systems and related hazard, risk, and resilience studies.

Quoc Nguyen

Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering

Quoc Nguyen’s research covers advanced gas and chemical enhanced hydrocarbon recovery methods in hydrocarbon formations, thermal and solvent-based recovery of oils, improved production of unconventional resources, fluids design for controlling unwanted fluid production, improving the conformance of injected fluids, removal and preventative treatment of scale deposits and hydrates, and research of heat and mass transfer phenomena and geochemistry.
