John O’Neill is a Program Manager with Global Innovation Lab (GIL), a unit of Texas Global, at The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin). He is a global startup strategist and business development executive who brings over 40 years of high technology, entrepreneurial startup and international market development experience. John partners with private sector CEOs, executives, entrepreneurs, and university and public sector officials to successfully commercialize new technologies, create new jobs, and improve a region’s overall ecosystem environment. Prior to joining UT Austin, John’s experience has included a 10-year stint at multiple Fortune 500 technology organizations such as IBM, Accenture, Control Data Corporation, and Prime Computer, Inc., where he then held executive management positions at multiple successful startup ventures over a 20-year period.
John has been with UT-Austin’s GIL organization for 12 years and has successfully managed international entrepreneur programs in Korea, Japan, India, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Thailand, Indonesia, and Uzbekistan. John has also worked in the underserved but rapidly emerging Women’s Entrepreneur development area, where he has pioneered four different programs in three different countries for GIL. John is a seasoned expert at identifying commercial applications for new technologies, while accelerating the time-to-market for new products being sold into and adopted by large companies and organizations. He is also an established trainer and expert speaker, addressing topics relating to innovation, market development, entrepreneurship, and wealth-creation. John also brings a highly collaborative management style to the teams and clients he works with to ensure the utmost in team development, productivity, and improved results.
John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the Daniels School of Business at Purdue University, and a Minor in Political Science. John also earned an MBA from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin, with concentrations in Finance and Marketing.
