“Originally from the Rio Grande Valley, Gabi grew up taking day trips to Reynosa and planning visits to her father in Guanajuato, Mexico. Seeing her father travel inspired her to pursue a bachelor’s in Global Studies at St. Edward’s University, with an emphasis on East Asian politics, international peacekeeping, and Japanese language. During her time at St. Edward’s, she participated in a semester long exchange program in Beppu, Japan, where she discovered her love of karaage, tuna onigiri, and cultural exchange. She spent the rest of her college career interning at the study abroad office and serving as a buddy for visiting Japanese summer exchange students.

After completing her degree, she worked as a program coordinator for a local study abroad provider and later as an enrollment specialist assisting individuals experiencing homelessness in Austin before returning to higher education. She joins Texas Global with a passion for international education, equity, and discovering something new.

When she’s not working, you may find her reading, weightlifting, or casting a fishing line in Town Lake (though not all at once). She also loves video games, the drive-in movie theater, and attending performances by Austin Symphony Orchestra.
