UT Austin Sends Historic Delegation to Paris Olympics

  • Jul 10, 2024

Current and former athletes and coaches from The University of Texas at Austin dominated the 2024 Olympic trials, securing a total of 37 spots in Paris. Thirty student and alumni athletes and seven coaches with ties to UT Athletics will participate in the 2024 Olympic Games.

The 30 athletes competing sets a record for the largest delegation UT Austin has sent to the Olympics, topping the previous best of 29 athletes at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Additionally, Texas is tied for fourth place among NCAA Division I schools, based on the number of current student athletes competing on the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team. Tied with Penn State (14), UT trails only Stanford (38), UCLA (17) and USC (16).

The current 14 UT athletes and three coaches come from 12 different Longhorn sports programs, including men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, rowing, soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, men's and women's track and field, and women’s indoor volleyball.

Athletes from UT Austin will represent 16 different countries: Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Haiti, Hungary, Ireland, Jamaica, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Saint Lucia, Serbia, South Sudan, Taiwan and the United States.

Entering the 2024 Paris Games, a total of 162 University of Texas athletes have participated in the Olympics and captured a combined 156 medals (89 gold, 43 silver and 24 bronze).

These amazing athletes can expect support not only from the countries for which they’re competing, but also from the UT community, which is proud to see Longhorns represent the University at the largest global sporting event.
