Fulbright U.S. Student Program 2019-2020 Application Opens April 2

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, in cooperation with the Institute of International Education, are pleased to announce the launch of the 2019-2020 Fulbright U.S. Student Program application beginning April 2, 2018.

Since 1946, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program has provided emerging American leaders with an unparalleled opportunity to study, conduct research, and serve as English teaching assistants abroad in order to build lasting connections between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program currently awards over 1,900 grants annually and operates in more than 140 countries worldwide.

In addition to hundreds of traditional study and research grants, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program currently offers more than 1,000 Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship awards to over 70 countries.

The University of Texas at Austin was named a top producer of U.S. Student Fulbright U.S. Students for the 2017-2018 academic year during which 20 students received Fulbright awards, more than any other university in Texas, to pursue projects in 17 countries on topics including education, photography, art, architecture, urban development, and computer science. More than 300 UT students and alumni have been awarded under the Fulbright U.S. Student Program since 1995.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program selects participants through a competitive, merit-based application process, and offers several benefits during the period of the grant. These include funding for round-trip travel, living expenses for one academic year, and healthcare benefits.

Applicants to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program must be U.S. citizens and hold a bachelor’s degree (or the equivalent) by the beginning of the grant period. Individuals may be but are not required to be currently enrolled in a college or university at the time of application. Early career professionals in a range of fields, including artists, are eligible and encouraged to apply.

The application is open to students graduating by summer 2019, graduate students, and alumni. Preliminary applications must be submitted electronically via the Embark Application System by the campus closing date of August 31, 2018. Final applications must be submitted by the October 9, 2018, national deadline.
