What effect do gender quotas have on the quality of public service provision? This talk examines the effect of randomly imposed electoral quotas for women in Mumbai's city council, using a wide variety of objective and subjective measures of constituency-level public service quality.
Dr. Alexander Lee earned his B.A. from Yale and his Ph.D. from Stanford University. He studies comparative politics, historical political economy, development, ethnic politics, bureaucracy, and South Asia, with research focusing on factors governing the success or failure of political institutions in the developing world. His book, From Hierarchy to Ethnicity: The Politics of Caste in Twentieth-Century India came out with Cambridge University Press in December 2019.
