Raúl Tamez: Contemporary Dance and the Social

In this talk, Raúl Tamez will discuss his practice as a contemporary dance choreographer. His pieces are expressionist with stress on syncretism and the social, he works in the physical theater tradition. Some fragments of his pieces will be analyzed. 

Tamez will talk about how he has built bridges between contemporary dance and sociology by working with social dancers and vulnerable groups, and as a participant/ observant of some traditional dances in Mexico.

Tamez is currently a Fulbright scholar serving as the Visiting Chair in Mexican Studies and being hosted by the Department of Theatre and Dance. He holds a degree in Sociology from UNAM in Mexico City.
