Explore Korean and Korean American identity through film during an evening dedicated to Korean arts and culture.
Alice McCoy-Bae, assistant professor of instruction in the Department of Asian Studies, will open the program with remarks on Korean arts and culture before a screening of James Choi’s 2025 film, "Before the Call." The coming-of-age drama follows a Korean American man who voluntarily enlists in the Korean military and spends the days before his deployment considering his identity, family ties, and the meaning of the war he has chosen to join.
Following the screening, McCoy-Bae will moderate a conversation with producer Judi Krant and Neha Aziz, artistic director of the Austin Asian American Film Festival. Refreshments will be served before the program.
