Global Risk & Safety will send a message to the IOC mailing list any time a Safety Update is posted, as well as when there are updates to the Restricted Regions list. This mailing list is a resource for university travelers and travel planners for faculty, staff, and students.

Carnival celebrations, which will include numerous parades and street festivals, are expected to take place across the world this weekend. Due to the presence of large crowds, crime such as mugging and pickpocketing should be anticipated, despite heightened security. Travelers are encouraged to remain vigilant at all times.

The White House has declared a public health emergency for the U.S. Beginning Feb. 2 at 5pm EST, the U.S. will temporarily suspend entry of foreign nationals who have been in mainland China within the last 14 days, with the exception of permanent residents and immediate family members of U.S. citizens. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the coronavirus outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). WHO convened for the second time on Jan. 30 regarding the coronavirus and distributed recommendations to address the outbreak.

Spring break is almost upon us, meaning a dramatic increase in travelers across the globe. While the majority of travelers have safe and enjoyable trips, taking a trip over spring break can sometimes have unforeseen problems. Some of these problems may include:

Carnival is a festive season that occurs in various countries and regions across the world before the season of Lent. It traditionally takes place during February or early March and involves public events and celebrations such as parades, street parties, and other forms of entertainment.

Terrorist attacks, political violence (such as demonstrations), criminal activities, and other security incidents can take place abroad at any time without warning.
