Supporting Syria, Turkey in Aftermath of Devastating Earthquake
- Feb 10, 2023
Dr. Sonia Feigenbaum, senior vice provost for global engagement, shares resources available for individuals who have been impacted by the catastrophic earthquake in Syria and Turkey, as well as ways to support rescue and recovery efforts.
We are profoundly saddened by the devastating earthquake that occurred in Syria and Turkey this week. Texas Global has been in touch with our students and scholars from the region, and our thoughts are with all who have loved ones and are part of the communities impacted by this tragedy.
We understand how a disaster, and the resulting anxiety, can affect the mental health and well-being of those with ties to the region. We urge our students and scholars to access available on-campus resources for support. From emergency financial aid to counseling by experienced practitioners, the UT Austin community is here to help navigate difficult times.
For those who wish to help financially, we recommend that you research and only consider reputable and registered organizations that are active in the rescue and recovery efforts. Let us all come together as Longhorns to support and uplift our students, faculty, staff, and alumni who have been affected by this tragedy.
Warm regards,
Sonia Feigenbaum, Ph.D.
