Foundation Year Programs

We combine exceptional program staff and English Language Center faculty with instruction by specialists and experienced trainers to create comprehensive programs that prepare international students for undergraduate and graduate study at universities in the United States.

About Foundation Year programs

Our Foundation Year programs provide:

  • University admissions support
  • Academic success skills coaching to help students navigate the North American higher education system
  • Cultural immersion activities
  • Courses to improve English speaking, reading and writing
  • Instruction of academic content
  • Individualized mentoring, tutoring and academic advising
  • Test preparation: TOEFL, SAT, ACT, GRE

  • Academic content courses taught by current UT faculty members
  • Leadership and service learning opportunities
  • Dedicated staff member coordinates all aspects of the student experience, including:
    • Housing in private dormitory near campus
    • Pre-arrival assistance and orientation
    • Ongoing monitoring of students’ progress
    • Cultural immersion experiences
    • Communication with sponsoring agency
    • University admissions applications assistance

  • American Culture and U.S. university life
  • TOEFL/SAT preparation

August-December

  • Writing course: Focus on SAT and university admissions essays
  • Reading course
  • TOEFL/SAT preparation
  • Math: Pre-calculus
  • Admissions support and application preparation
  • Leadership activities and service-learning projects

January –May

  • Reading course
  • Capstone course with emphasis on writing
  • Math: Calculus
  • Science: Physics or Chemistry
  • Leadership activities and cultural excursions
