At The University of Texas at Austin, we know what starts here changes the world. But before Longhorns become global leaders, they have to first know the world by experiencing new cultures, languages and histories.
International education is more important now than ever before. That’s why from Nov. 12 to 16, we are celebrating International Education Week (IEW), a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.
Students, organizations, colleges and offices across campus have prepared events to celebrate international academic exchange throughout the week, including International Trivia Night on Tuesday and International Storytelling Night on Wednesday. Browse to see all events during IEW.
In 2017-2018, Texas Global focused on several efforts to improve campus internationalization as well as academic and financial access to study abroad. Despite national trends, UT’s international population has grown to more than 8,000 international students, faculty, scholars and global academy participants from 140 countries. Study abroad participation has increased by 12 percent.
We are grateful for our international community which includes international students, study abroad students, faculty and staff members dedicated to enriching students’ global learning experience, and we are delighted to celebrate our community's progress in international education in our impact report.
To commemorate students’ international experiences, we have curated the photo and video submissions from our study abroad students. These photos are the finalists of the 2018 Education Abroad Photo and Video contest, which includes six categories – Longhorn Pride, Major Abroad, Once in Lifetime, People of the World, Artistic Eye and Video.
Vote for your favorites! Click the photo and like it on our Facebook page to select the winners in each category.
Students showcase themselves or their friends abroad in a moment that exemplifies their experience abroad, like participating in an exciting activity, eating an exotic food, doing the “Hook ’Em” or wearing the Texas Global flag Longhorn T-shirt in front of a historic building or landmark.
The Major Abroad category is a chance for study abroad student to give us an insight of their academic experiences abroad, showcasing their classes, study environments, unique field experiences, research settings, and more.
Once in a Lifetime
The Once in a Lifetime category encourages students to capture that moment when they stop and realize that the study abroad experience truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
People of the World
The People of the World category captures the daily lives of people around the world, like vendors at the market, locals walking the streets, or people enjoying a festival.
The Artistic Eye category gives students an opportunity to showcase creative vision, ranging from small details to large landscapes that capture a thought, feeling, idea, mood, or moment of their study abroad experience.
These student-produced videos document the best moments of their study abroad experiences. Click on the images to watch the full videos and vote here.
